American artist Sol LeWitt (1928 - 2007) became prominent in the middle of the 20th century and was linked to both the conceptualism and minimalism movements. He worked in a variety of mediums including paintings, drawings, print making, and installations. We drew inspiration from the “wall drawings” series, particularly his later works composed of solid bands of bold primary and secondary color in acrylic.

The Sol Sock has the same make, crew height and universal fit (yup, one size fits most men AND women) as American Trenches best-selling Kennedy Socks, with a block of bold stripes at the ankle.

The Factory

The Hickory region has been a concentrated center for hosiery knitting mills, yarn spinning companies, and dye houses stretching back to the 1930s and 40s.  The picture shown on the right is a cone of pure silver filament plaited with nylon, taken on location at the sock mill.
